La Cinémathèque Film Club presents:

Scandinavian Film

Northern Europe has long been a stronghold of cinema, the birthplace of scores of mysterious, enchanting, and exciting films that have been cemented as classics of film history.  Join us now as La Cinémathèque Film Club introduces a new series that explores three important films from Scandinavia. After each film screening, there will be discussions about the the culture and politics of the country as presented in the films, as well as conversations about the artistic content and human stories.

La Cinémathèque Film Club screenings are curated and hosted by educator, artist, and filmmaker Gerard Amsellem.

To attend, buy your membership online or at the SOPAC box office for just $50.

Please note: Film Club Memberships are available for sale in advance of a series and through the first film screening of a series as the discussions around each film build upon prior screenings.

Friends of the South Orange Public Library presents: 

Cannes Palme d'Or Winners

The Friends of the South Orange Public Library and La Cinémathèque Film Club are bringing you a five-film series that will serve as an introduction to important and influential winners of the most prestigious prize in international cinema: the Cannes Film Festival's Palme d'or.  Each film will be introduced with a short lesson by Gerard Amsellem with group discussion afterwards.  Admission is free to the public thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the South Orange Public Library, and refreshments will be available.  For more information, contact Phyllis Kalb at (973) 762-0230 or email us.

Chinese Film

La Cinémathèque Film Club screenings are curated and hosted by educator, artist, and filmmaker Gerard Amsellem.  Select discussions will be guided by Chinese film expert Tan Ye of the University of South Carolina.
